Analysis of the Méndez Principles in Uganda: Challenges & Opportunities

Through our ongoing focus on policy reform and human rights protection, VICAI highlights research analyzing the practical application of the Méndez Principles on Effective Interviewing within Uganda’s legal and policing landscape. Grounded in international human rights standards, the analysis evaluates the shift from coercive interrogation methods to non-coercive, rapport-based interviewing practices. It identifies key operational gaps, structural challenges, and targeted opportunities for training, policy reform, and institutional alignment to eliminate torture during criminal investigations.
